SBI PO CIBIL Condition 2026

What the official notification actually says — and what it does not say

Official Text — Point 5 & Point 32 of CRPD/PO/2026-27/09

“Candidates who have defaulted in repayment under any lending arrangement with Banks / NBFCs / Financial Institutions, including credit card dues, and whose accounts reflect adverse credit history in CIBIL or any other recognized credit information agency, shall be required to regularize/repay all such outstanding dues on or before the date of joining the Bank…Failure to regularize/repay such dues and submit satisfactory proof thereof on or before the date of joining shall render the candidate ineligible for appointment, and the offer of appointment shall be withdrawn/cancelled. Candidates are advised to check and confirm their CIBIL score/status before applying.”

What This Means — 4 Key Points

No minimum CIBIL score is specified

The notification does not mention any score like 650 or any numeric threshold. The condition is about defaults and adverse credit history — not your credit score number.

This is a joining condition, not an application bar

You are not prevented from applying, writing Prelims, or writing Mains because of CIBIL. The condition applies at the time of joining. Candidates who qualify and get selected must clear dues before they are given the offer/appointment.

It targets candidates with actual loan/credit card defaults

If you have never defaulted — i.e., you have always paid EMIs, credit card bills, or loan instalments on time — this clause does not affect you, regardless of what your CIBIL score is.

If CIBIL record is not updated after repayment, produce an NOC

Even if you repay dues, CIBIL records may take 30–45 days to update. In that case, SBI accepts NOCs or documentary evidence from the lender confirming no outstanding dues as an alternative.

How to Check Your CIBIL Status

SBI advises all candidates to check their CIBIL status before applying. This takes 2–3 minutes online.

  1. 1Visit the official CIBIL website (cibil.com) or an RBI-authorised bureau (Experian, CRIF, Equifax)
  2. 2Log in or sign up using your PAN number and basic KYC details
  3. 3Verify identity via OTP sent to the mobile linked to your PAN/Aadhaar
  4. 4Download your full credit report — look specifically for any 'DPD' (Days Past Due), 'NPA', 'Written Off', or 'Settled' accounts
  5. 5If all accounts show 'Standard' or 'Closed (paid)', you are not affected by the CIBIL clause
  6. 6If any adverse entry exists, contact the lender immediately to resolve it

If You Have Defaults — Steps to Take

1. Contact the lending institution (bank, NBFC, credit card company) immediately
2. Request the exact outstanding dues amount including interest and penalties
3. Pay the full outstanding amount or negotiate a one-time settlement
4. Obtain a written NOC / No-Dues Certificate from the lender on their letterhead
5. Wait 30–45 days for CIBIL to reflect the updated status after payment
6. Download a fresh CIBIL report to confirm the adverse entry has been resolved
7. Carry the NOC and CIBIL report to document verification / joining as proof

Frequently Asked Questions

I read online that SBI PO 2026 requires a CIBIL score of 650 or more — is that true?

No. The official notification (CRPD/PO/2026-27/09) does not specify any minimum CIBIL score like 650. This claim appears to have originated from speculation. The actual condition is about clearing loan/credit card defaults before joining — not about achieving a specific score.

I have no credit card or loan. Does this CIBIL clause apply to me?

No. If you have never taken any credit product (loan, credit card, BNPL, etc.), your CIBIL record will show NH (No History) or a score of –1. You are not affected by this clause at all.

My CIBIL score is 580 but I have no defaults or missed payments. Am I eligible?

Based on the official notification, a score of 580 with no defaults does not bar you. The notification targets those with adverse credit history (actual defaults, overdue accounts, NPAs). However, carry your credit report to document verification as SBI may conduct independent verification.

Is the CIBIL check done at the time of applying or during joining?

The clause applies at the time of joining (date of appointment). However, SBI advises candidates to check and confirm their status before applying, so they have time to resolve any issues before the joining date.
