Educational Qualification
- •A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a Government-recognised University is required.
- •Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) holders must check their degree passing date as per the notification.
- •Final-year students can apply provisionally but must pass before the date of joining if selected.
- •Ex-servicemen who have matric with 15 years of defence service and a specific Army/Navy/Air Force certificate are also eligible.
- •Computer literacy: knowledge of computer operation is a mandatory requirement.
Nationality
- •Must be a citizen of India.
- •Citizens of Nepal or Bhutan are also eligible.
- •Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- •Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) migrated from specific countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries, etc.) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
- •PIOs must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

The SBI Clerk selection has three stages — no interview. Merit is determined purely by examination performance.
Preliminary Examination
Objective test with 100 questions (100 marks) in 60 minutes. Acts as a qualifying/shortlisting stage for the Mains. Marks in Prelims are NOT counted in the final merit list.
English (30Q · 20 min) + Quantitative Aptitude (35Q · 20 min) + Reasoning (35Q · 20 min)
Main Examination
Objective test with 190 questions (200 marks) in 2 hours 40 minutes. This is the final merit-determining stage. State-wise and category-wise merit lists are prepared based on Mains marks.

Language Proficiency Test (LPT)
A qualifying test to assess the candidate's proficiency in the official language of the state/UT applied for. Candidates must pass LPT to receive the final appointment letter.

Negative Marking — Both Prelims & Mains
0.25 marks (one-fourth) are deducted for every wrong answer in both Preliminary and Main examinations. Unanswered questions carry no penalty. Attempt only when you are reasonably confident.
