SBI Apprentice Recruitment 2026 – Overview

State Bank of India, Central Recruitment & Promotion Department (CRPD), Corporate Centre, Mumbai has officially released Advertisement No. CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07 dated 19/05/2026 for engagement of 7150 Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Apprentices will receive a stipend of ₹15,000 per month for a 1-year On-the-Job Training period. Online examination is tentatively scheduled in July 2026.

Important: This is NOT employment in the Bank, nor is it contract employment. Candidates engaged as Apprentices will NOT be treated as employees of SBI and are not entitled to any employee benefits. SBI has no obligation to offer regular employment after the apprenticeship period.

A total of 7150 training seats distributed across 34 States/UTs with category-wise bifurcation (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR) and horizontal PwBD reservation. Candidates can apply for engagement in one State only.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification (as on 01-04-2026)

Graduation from a recognised University / Institute. Candidates must also be proficient in the specified local language of the chosen State/UT (reading, writing, speaking and understanding).

Prior Apprenticeship / Work Experience

Candidates who have undergone Apprenticeship in SBI or any other organisation, or are currently pursuing Apprenticeship Training under the Apprentices Act 1961, are NOT eligible. Candidates who had training or job experience for 1 year or more after attaining educational qualification are also NOT eligible.

Other Conditions

  • Mandatory registration on NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) before applying online on the SBI website.
  • Candidates with CIBIL default (unpaid loans/credit card dues not regularised) are not eligible.
  • All candidates (except from Northeastern States) must produce Aadhaar Number before engagement.
  • Indian Citizens only. Can apply for one State only.

Age Limit (as on 01-04-2026)

Minimum: 20 years | Maximum: 28 years. Born not earlier than 02-04-1998 and not later than 01-04-2006 (both days inclusive).

Negative marking: 1/4th of the marks deducted for each wrong answer. Test questions (except General English) will be set in 13 regional languages in addition to English and Hindi, as applicable State-wise. SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates get 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks on aggregate. Merit list drawn State-wise and category-wise in descending order; tie-break by age descending.

Stage 2 – Test of Local Language

Conducted after qualifying the online written examination. Candidates who fail to qualify are not engaged. Candidates who studied the specified local language at 10th or 12th level are exempt. Candidates must appear at their own expense.

Stage 3 – Medical Examination

Engagement is subject to being declared medically fit as per Bank requirements and satisfactory completion of KYE formalities.

Weightage in Junior Associate Recruitment

Apprentices who successfully complete the training in SBI (passing the skill evaluation / Trade test and obtaining the joint National Apprenticeship Certificate from SBI-NSDC / BFSI-SSC) will receive weightage/relaxation in recruitment of Junior Associates (Clerk), subject to satisfactory conduct and performance during the entire training period, as per the Bank's recruitment policy in force.

  3. Complete online registration, fill the application form, upload required documents, pay the fee, and submit.
  4. Save/print the application confirmation for future reference.

Documents to Upload at Application

  • Recent passport-size colour photograph (200×230 px; 20–50 KB; JPEG)
  • Signature with black ink on white paper (140×60 px; 10–20 KB; JPEG)
  • Left Thumb Impression on white paper with black or blue ink (240×240 px; 20–50 KB; JPEG)
  • Handwritten Declaration in English in candidate's own handwriting (800×400 px; 50–100 KB; JPEG)
  • Live photograph captured via webcam or mobile phone

Important Instructions

  • This is NOT employment in SBI. Apprentices are trainees only with no right to claim regular employment.
  • Stipend of ₹15,000/month only; no other allowances or employee benefits.
  • Apply for one State only; cannot appear for the examination more than once under this project.
  • OBC Creamy Layer candidates must apply as General category.
  • Change of category not permitted after registration.
  • Only one application per candidate; multiple applications result in forfeiture of extra fees paid.
  • No Ex-Servicemen reservation under this engagement.
  • PwBD candidates with temporary (likely to improve) disability are not eligible for reservation.
  • PwBD candidates with 40% or more disability may avail scribe facility (arranged at own cost) with 20 minutes compensatory time per hour.
  • No mobile phones, smartwatches or electronic devices inside examination premises.
  • Legal jurisdiction for any dispute: Mumbai only.
